One Mind Told Me

We frequently use the phrase 'one mind told me.'

The other day, just before I left home to visit my sister, 'one mind told me,' 'Give her a call, to see if she is at home.' Given that it was a holiday, I figured that if she had been out during the day, she would already be at home by now.

I drove to her house despite the voice, only to discover that she wasn't there. When I got home, the first Scripture verse I read was,

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directed his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9, KJV)

This revelation prompted me to contemplate how God communicates with us. I suggest that He is in constant communication; all we must do is pay heed and differentiate His voice from our own.

As we navigate life and strive to live a Spirit-led existence, we must align our hearts with God's design. However, this alignment is not natural, nor is it an easy surrender. Nonetheless, it remains attainable. We can learn to follow the guidance of the 'still small voice' within us.

'The heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked: who can know it?' (Jeremiah 17:9-10, KJV)

This verse underscores the inherent sinfulness of human beings, highlighting humanity's susceptibility to sin. It serves as a reminder of our reliance on God's grace and redemption to overcome our sinful inclinations and conform our hearts to His plan.

My attempt to follow my instincts, “one mind,” in visiting my sister underscored how our impulses may not always align with God's grander design. Through our journey, we come to understand that while free will is ours, it is ultimately the Lord who guides our steps onto the righteous path. In my view, the 'one mind' that whispered to me was divine, not a mere projection of my thoughts.

True wisdom lies in distinguishing between our fleeting human inclinations and the resolute call of God's eternal wisdom. The Teacher instructs us,

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil.” (Proverbs 3:5-7, KJV)

Let us remember to avoid relying solely on our understanding. Instead, in all circumstances, we should trust in God's guidance. By doing so, we are certain to veer away from undesirable outcomes. Just as a ship requires a skilled captain to navigate treacherous waters, our journey necessitates entrusting ourselves to the Divine Navigator. His wisdom surpasses our limited vision. Through this trust, we align our steps with the divine course, steering clear of the reefs of self-reliance and moving toward the open sea of His purpose.

Amidst life's currents, as they pull and push, let us attune our ears to His whispers. The symphony of guidance is ceaselessly present, awaiting our attentive hearts to heed its harmonious call."
